In 2019 the Vodacom Super Rugby season was bigger than the game of rugby, making an impact far greater than any log table or trophy cabinet can ever reflect.
From February to June this year, South Africa’s Vodacom Super Rugby players, sponsors, celebrities and fans came together to tackle, donate, cycle or support in any way possible a #TacklingCancer campaign that’s given the Childhood Cancer Foundation, known as CHOC, a million more reasons to keep helping children fight the biggest battles of their lives.
Vodacom and Supersport joined hands to lead the charge in tackling cancer by donating R100 for every tackle made by our South African players with the aim to raise R1 million for CHOC.
Off the field we hosted 5 events where the little heroes from CHOC got to meet their superheroes as the players spent some quality time with these brave children, having a party or watching a movie together.
The celebrations were joined by dedicated caregivers, doctors, nurses, and parents who all support the children battling cancer every day.
On the rugby field, the “superheroes” of the South African teams tackled their hearts out to play their part in Tackling Cancer.
This Vodacom Super Rugby season, the South African rugby community achieved something that is truly bigger than the game.
Together, South Africa’s Vodacom Super Rugby community helped to raise R1 million for CHOC, which Vodacom and SuperSport handed over at the exclusive CHOC Golf Day at Randpark Golf Club on 8 August 2019.
